I've home-trained regularly for many years so I'm used to training in a confined area. I'm excited to be sharing some of my regular drills with everyone and I hope you’ll find the class both exciting and useful for your own home-training.
KIHON: We shall be mixing in some strength and explosive exercises while practicing our Kihon (basics), which ensures we are developing our mind and body together. The goal is to improve technique whilst also increasing speed, power, endurance and mental toughness (karate spirit). We will also cover modified versions of these drills for anyone who has an injury or simply wants to go at an easier pace.
KUMITE: As combat relies on reacting both correctly and quickly, we shall work on some defensive and attacking reaction drills (higher grades can choose more advanced techniques).
KATA: With a confined space we shall only work on combinations in kata. I shall have everyone work on a couple of chosen combinations, and following this, each student is free to choose any combination from any kata they wish as we shall be working on the physiology behind the moves, rather than the specific techniques themselves.
